Membership at Akron Makerspace doesn’t just give you access to our tools and our wonderful community, it also gives you the ability to rent workspace, receive discounts on classes, and attend member events.

Our Member Application Process Has Changed

Starting October 1, 2023, we have updated our membership application process.

The first steps in our process? Join our Discord server, introduce yourself to our community and sign up for an upcoming tour!

After a tour and getting to know our community you still want to apply for membership, you’ll get an email letting you know the next steps you can take.

Already Toured the Space?

Once you’ve taken a tour, you will need to monitor your email for a welcome email. This email will contain more information and a link to sign up for the mandatory new member orientation. 

Due to our rapidly increasing membership, we currently have a waitlist for potential members. 

New memberships are prioritized based on lab and instructor availability.

Example: If you want to get started in a high-traffic lab, you may have a longer wait time than someone who applies to use a less busy lab. 

    What to Expect as a New Member of Akron Makerspace

    All new members are subject to a 30-day probationary period. During this time, we ask new makers to take the orientation class for at least one of our labs. New members should take that first month to get to know our maker community better and ensure that it’s a good fit for both them and Akron Makerspace. 

    At the end of the 30-day probationary membership, new members can request an access token that will grant them 24/7 access and storage space for ongoing projects. 

    Also, take a moment to review our Code of Conduct (Top Rules of the Space), Waiver of Liability, and Privacy Policy.

    Membership Rates and Fees 

    • Basic membership – $40 per month
    • Discounted membership – $35 per month
      • Available to students, veterans, military service members, and people who receive SSI or SSDI.
    • Family membership – $40 for the first member per month, $20 per every member after that
    • Access Token Fee – $5 one-time administrative fee.

    Income-based Membership Options

    Starting in 2024, Akron Makerspace is pleased to offer income-based membership options for those who qualify. 

     We offer discounted membership for anyone at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) according to their household income.
