Safety Protocol
In an emergency, first call 911
Next, notify the board by calling 330 789-6253 (this number reaches several members of the board, please leave a voicemail with details).
Fire Extinguishers (🧯 on map)
- Know where the fire extinguishers are in the space and where the closest one to your workspace is.
- Do not block the fire extinguishers.
- Do not put anything in front of them.
- Do not park carts under them.
- Maintain a three-foot clearance on all sides of extinguishers
Emergency Exit (near Kiln)
- Is located to the right of the entrance of the electronics lab.
- If there is an emergency do not try to use the elevator. Take the stairs.
First Aid Kits (➕ on map)
- These are located on the column near the kitchenette and next to the door to the classrooms in the Wood Lab.
Safety Cabinet (🥽 on map)
- This cabinet is black with a safety yellow striping and is located on the edge of the large classroom. It holds everything you need to protect yourself during a project (gloves, goggles, face shields, ear protection etc.)
Flammable Safety Cabinet (💥 on map)
- It is a yellow metal cabinet for the storage of combustible substances
Use of dangerous chemicals, sealants, and other material
- See a Maintainer if you are not sure where you are permitted to work.
- We understand your project may require the use of special chemicals. Some substances are within the scope of conventional Space operations (e.g. polyurethane, Bondo, standard glues, resins, acrylic & latex-based paint or spray paint). Use these types of things in the spray booth or adjacent. Cover your work area to prevent damage, and limit your work to the Dirty Fabrication Area.
- These materials should be stored in the flammable safety cabinets in each area. They are metal and painted yellow.
- Other types of chemicals, such as those that might be flammable or noxious, or otherwise prevent people from working in our space due to smell or other safety concerns may not be used indoors anywhere in the Space without prior approval by a Maintainer.
- When in doubt, ask first! You will need to obtain the chemical/substance’s SDS sheet and provide that to us.
- SDS stands for “Safety Data Sheet” and info can be found at http://www.msds.com. These provide critical first aid, safety information, and substance interaction information.
