The Akron Makerspace uses monetary donations to maintain current equipment and to purchase new equipment. Part of our mission is to provide tools to help our members and community learn new skills. Your donation helps us realize that mission!

Item Donation Policy

Akron Makerspace is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is eligible to receive tax-deductible donations. While some equipment and material donations are welcome, we have limited capacity to process or store items with no immediate use. Item donation requests are presented to a Gift Review Committee that will look over potential donations and decide what to accept. 

If you are interested in making an item donation to the Akron Makerspace please look over the guidelines below: 

1. The items must have a clear connection to the purpose and scope of the Space. 
   1. We prefer new and gently used item donations so they can be quickly integrated to the shops in the Space.
2. Requests to donate items to the AMS must be made in writing to board@akronmakerspace.org. We ask you to provide pictures and an itemized list of items you’d like to donate, as well as your contact information. 
   1. This request will be reviewed by a committee and then we will reach out to you with our decision and set up a time to receive the donation. 
3. Please wait until you hear from us before you bring the items to the Space. 
   
   
4. Understand that we cannot accept everything. Space, time, and energy heavily dictate what donations the Space can take. 
   
   
5. All acquisitions to the Space will remain in the possession of the Space for as long as they retain their physical integrity and as long as they remain useful for the purposes of the Space.
   
   
6. To see what items the Space is in need of, please see the “Our Labs” drop down on the menu of our website and read our Lab wish-lists. 
   
   
7. Donations are fully tax deductible within IRS guidelines. Please consult your tax advisor. Have your donation appraised before you donate it if you want a tax deduction. AMS cannot appraise your donation.
